"We don't care what they say, we will be here all day;
We'll stay here till it's over.
Till the world's out of sight, we will stand—we will fight;
It's NOT over till it's over.
"
— Level vocals

Description

After the story sequence from the proceeding level Annihilate, where it got destroyed, the Blue Square, empowered, determined and reborn, is ready to fight the main antagonist one more time. This time, the Square brings the fight to the Boss.

The player's unique appearance during the level

Uniquely from other levels in the game, Till It's Over departs from avoiding attacks made by the Boss to directly and actively attacking the Boss until its health bar depletes. Throughout the level, the player cannot be damaged and if hit, they will be knocked back from the Boss's attacks, making it impossible to lose this level under any circumstances. The Boss, on the other hand, is now vulnerable and can take damage from the player's attacks.

The Boss borrows most of its attacks from its previous boss battle, Annihilate. The Boss has a large pool of health and its health bar can be displayed at the bottom of the screen.

Players take on an altered appearance as a glowing round spike with their respective shape outlined in the center. It retains most of its abilities (such as dashing) however. In addition, players automatically shoot projectiles and lasers that can damage the Boss.

This boss battle itself has three phases, and each phase transitions to the next as the Boss's HP decreases. In order to progress through this level, players must bring down the Boss's HP to zero.

The introduction lasts for thirty-five seconds before the soundtrack starts looping for 17 seconds in each phase. This boss battle will last about 1 minute and 27 seconds or more. After the level's completion, it will start the next story sequence of the game, leading to the epilogue of the game's storyline.

Introduction

This section lasts for 35 seconds.

The level starts out directly after its previous story sequence, with the player(s) simply floating in the middle-bottom of the stage along with a unique teal background (which is just a recolor of the background from Annihilate), as the track's introduction plays. The background shortly fades away shortly after. As the vocals in the level start to sing, the Boss shows up again, in a manner similar to the beginning of Annihilate, along with segmented borders appearing all across the player. The Boss's HP is shown and the phrase "IT'S NOT OVER" reappears in sync with the vocals, in a way that is similar when the player fixes itself.

Phase 1

Once the beat drops, both the player and the Boss unleashes both of their attacks. The player attacks with small line projectiles (which deals a small amount of damage) and a beam (with much more damage than the line) in each beat. The Boss chomps and summons a ring of round spikes, but this can be cancelled if the beam hits the Boss. As the player damages the Boss, the Boss's segments soon break, with each of them being destroyed by the beams of the player. Damage dealt to the Boss will be transferred to the round spikes right next to the Boss, and round spikes will retract from the bottom center (i.e. clockwise on the left and counterclockwise on the right). If one side has no round spikes, the round spike farthest away on the other side will take damage in addition to the round spike right next to the Boss.

Phase 2

Around 66% of its HP, the segments are now destroyed and the Boss itself appears to be damaged. It then spawns a ring of round spikes around itself, it continues to chomp and summon smaller round spikes at a faster rate, and direct hits with the beam no longer cancel round spikes ring summons. They are shortly destroyed by the player's attacks. When the Boss is directly damaged, the damage is again transferred to the round spikes, but this time it is distributed evenly to all eight round spikes. Again, all the round spikes must be destroyed to proceed.

Phase 3

At around 33% HP, the Boss appears disfigured, due to it enduring a lot of damage caused by the player. As giant segments appear from the top of the screen and "attach" right onto the Boss, it resorts to moving to one of the three points at the center of the screen then smashing at the bottom of it, along with a "shockwave" that spreads out in each side.

Soon after reaching 0% HP, the Boss returns to the middle of the screen before explosions and a wave of light flashes on the screen. The level ends shortly after.

Trivia

  • This level introduces the composer Tristam. Another soundtrack that they made for this game is Once Again, played after this level and before Final Boss.
  • The level name (seen in the title sequence above and the Just Shapes & Beats Soundtrack List) was T ' Ill It's Over instead its track name, Till It's Over.
    • This was the case in earlier versions, and it has been patched. This is not the case for the soundtrack list however.
  • Corrupted and this level have many bearing similarities to each other:
    • These are the only levels that do not have a progress bar.
      • However, this uses the Boss's HP bar to track the player's progress instead.
    • These are the only levels that can't be replayed in Playlist mode, they can only be done so by modifying or hacking the game.
    • These are also the only levels that cannot be played in Challenge Mode.
    • As a result of this, these are the only levels that cannot be played in Hardcore Mode difficulty either.
    • These are the only levels that are only progressed through player interaction; for this case of this level, damaging the Boss.
    • These are the only levels that can only be played by level select in Story mode rather than being available in other modes.
    • These are the only levels that the soundtrack progresses if the player interactively progresses in the level.
      • This is one of the reasons why the level does not immediately end as soon as the Boss's HP is at 0%. Once the player reduces the Boss's HP to 0%, the last part of the track will either repeat one more time or continue until the track ends. It will not end abruptly or fade out.
    • These levels move the player's starting point from the left side to the middle area of the screen.
    • These are the only levels that are impossible to fail.
      • The player(s) can't shatter; they have unlimited health.
  • This level is unique in multiple ways:
    • This level, unlike all of the levels in the game, uses a "Shoot 'em Up" genre formula instead of a "Bullet Hell" genre formula.
    • The level's track starts to play at an offset rather than the beginning of the track, starting from the point where the friend revives the player. The level starts around 35 seconds from the start of the track.
    • This is the only level where the back to map option is disabled.
    • This is also the only level where it changes the player's appearance.
    • It is the only boss level where the player actively defeats the boss aside from dodging its attacks.
  • While not displayed, this track is part of Monstercat 016 - Expedition album, along with New Game and Rainbow Road.
  • The title of the soundtrack, as well as the vocals, are a play on the game's phrase that reoccurs throughout the game, "IT'S OVER" and "IT'S NOT OVER".
  • The player's altered form is known as "Supermode" in the game's internal files.
